Decorated soldiers and veterans are in the spotlight to celebrate the anniversary of the victory over Nazism in 1945.
Celebrated on 9 May as in the whole of the former USSR, the Victory Day ("Hakhtanagui Don") over Nazism recalls the contribution of Armenia to this major event, with its associations of decorated veterans. Proportionally, Armenia was among the former Soviet republics that sent the most soldiers (600 000) and paid the highest price for the war (200 000 dead). The pride of the country is taken by soldiers who distinguished themselves there, such as Marshals H. Bagramian from Karabagh, A. Khoutiakov, Babadjanian or Admiral Issakov.
