This is one of the great moments in the festive calendar of Yerevan, whose inhabitants celebrate in jubilation the anniversary of the founding of their capital, in 782 BC, by the kings of Urartou, who had named it Erebouni, as recalled by the remains of the eponymous citadel south of the city of Yerevan. Saltimbanques, boatmen, historical reconstitutions with colourful costumes, concerts and other activities attract a joyful crowd in the streets of the capital.
