SOURP SARKIS CHURCH (ST. SERGIUS)
This traditional Armenian-style church, overlooking the Hrazdan Gorge, was the largest place of worship in the capital.
Overlooking the Hrazdan Gorge in front of the brandy distillery, at the Hakhtanaki Kamurj (Victory Bridge), a large arch made of metal and Soviet stone spanning the Hrazdan, this ochre tufa church was founded in 1450, but was rebuilt in 1853 in the traditional Armenian style. It was the largest active place of worship in the capital, before it was dethroned by the Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator in 2001.
