SOURP ASDVADZADZINE CHURCH (HOLY SEA OF GOD)
Russian Orthodox church, renowned for its sculpted decorations and ochre and black stones
Situated on the heights of Nork, to the north-west, towards the Botanical Garden, the 17th century church of Sainte-Mère-de-Dieu is modest in size but interesting. Destroyed by the 1679 earthquake, it was rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century. Its sculpted decorations, but also the ochre and black stones of its checkerboard cladding on the gables and horizontal stripes on the facades give it an Italian air. It is used in Russian Orthodox worship.
