SHOGHAGAT CHURCH

Church set in the local architectural heritage to discover a 3-bay porch-gallery sculpted with plant motifs.
The church known as Shoghagat (flow of light), in reference to the vision of Gregory the Illuminator, occupies a somewhat special place in the local architectural heritage, due to its late construction in 1694. But it is also located on the presumed site of the martyrdom of a companion of Saint Hripsimus. This long, small church dominated by a drum with a pyramidal roof, preceded by a porch-gallery with 3 bays carved with plant motifs and flanked by a rotunda, is reminiscent of the Zoravor church in Yerevan from the same period.
