To the west of the temple, hidden behind a screen of greenery in the locality, only this modest yet elegant church, whose foundations, on the site of an ancient pagan sanctuary, date back to the 7th century, bears witness to Garni's episcopal past, with the wall section of an even older single-nave church. The church of Patriarch Mashtots, as seen, dates from the 12th century and has been completely restored. It is surrounded by khatchkars from different periods.
