CHURCH OF KARMRAVOR

A small cruciform chapel renowned for its rounded roof tiles, which give it the air of a Byzantine church.
Karmravor ("red") is a small cruciform chapel from the 7th century, all the more touching as it has kept its tiled roof on an octagonal dome pierced by four windows. Until the 9th century, churches had these roofs, which were later replaced by conical roofs covered with tufa; this rounded tile dome gives a false Byzantine church-like appearance to the chapel surrounded by a small 13th century wall, to the north of which extends the cemetery containing beautiful khatchkars, the oldest of which, called Tsak Kar, dates from 1268.
