TEGHER MONASTERY
An original monastery with four domes: the two bell towers, the rotunda of the narthex and the drum of the church
This large church built in 1232 by order of Princess Mamakhatun, wife of Vatché Vatchoutian, is very original, because of the two high bell towers added to the jamatoun that precedes the church, designed like two-storey mausoleum churches (such as those of Eghvard and Noravank). All in length, the ensemble gives the impression of elevation with the four domes (the two bell towers, the rotunda of the narthex and the church drum) that crown it. The vast interior space calls for prayer. Some of the slabs, engraved with crosses, are graves.
