CHURCH OF OCHAKAN
Church built in 1875, located in the heart of the village on the banks of the Kasakh River, housing the remains of Mesrop Machtots.
Located in the heart of the village on the Kasakh river, spanned as in Achtarak, by a beautiful bridge, this church contains the remains of Mesrop Machtots. Vahram Amatouni, lord of Ochakan, had the remains of the inventor of the Armenian alphabet, who died in 440 in Etchmiadzin, buried in a crypt in his fiefdom. Built in 1875 on older foundations, the church consists of a nave whose side facades of grey and ochre stone have blind arches running through them and whose chevet is crowned by a rotunda-shaped belfry.
