CHURCH OF AROUTCH

Built in 660-670, this Aroutch church is renowned for its facades pierced by large windows, its frescoes and its dome.
One of the largest churches in the country, this church on the outskirts of the village was built in 660-670, and although its basilical plan still bears the influence of Rome, it prefigures the future domed churches. Large windows, hemmed with arches and friezes, pierce its façades, illuminating the interior space, articulated around the vast dome, supported by four supports engaged in the walls of the nave. Remains of frescoes in the apse reveal a great Christ standing, holding a scroll, with the apostles.
