NORADUZ KHATCHKARS
This cemetery, which contains the largest concentration of khatchkars in Armenia, is renowned for its steles sculpted with crosses.
The cemetery in the village of Noraduz contains the largest concentration of khatchkar in Armenia. Real red stone lace, these steles carved with crosses, dating from the 9th century at XVe siècle, are scattered in a large lapidary field, near the small medieval chapel with a pointed roof Sourp Asdvadzadzine. A local legend tells that these steles would have made it possible to drive back the enemy who was trying to seize the region. The inhabitants would have camouflaged them in such a way that they gave the impression of an innumerable army...
