An intoxicating break in this wine village of Vayots Dzor (south) where the wine is in the spotlight and tasted during the harvest.
Armenia prides itself on being the cradle of viticulture, as confirmed by recent discoveries in Areni (south-west), where a cellar has revealed the oldest wine presses and other wine-making accessories ever discovered, more than 6,000 years old, much more tangible evidence than the vine plants that, according to myth, Patriarch Noah planted at the foot of the Ararat. It is in this locality of the Vayotsdzor wine region that the grape harvest is celebrated, around buffets where the wine ("kini") flows in waves, with dances and music.
