Site of beautiful khatchkars near the village of Angekhakot, where Israel Ori and Melik Safraz held their meeting of the council of meliks.
After the Spendarian Reservoir, on one of the many lapidary fields where the road leading to Sissian winds between the mountains, lies a site of beautiful khatchkars, near the village of Angekhakot. In 1669, it was on the outskirts of this venerable cemetery that Israel Ori and Melik Safraz assembled a council of the Melik (the Armenian nobles of Siunie and neighbouring Karabagh enjoying relative autonomy) during which it was decided to call on France and Russia to help the Armenians to escape from Ottoman rule.
