HOTEL SHANGRI-LA
Hotel with 71 rooms overlooking the Pacific built in 1939, which reminds us of a large cargo ship on the seashore
Built in 1939, the architecture of the Shangri-La is reminiscent of a large cargo ship by the sea. Each of the 71 rooms has a view of the Pacific Ocean. Elegance and sobriety (perhaps even a little too much), president of interior design, by Marc Smith. Suite 700 has a 360º view of the ocean; this is where the lounge bar and restaurant are located. The dishes are prepared with seasonal ingredients carefully selected by the Chef at Santa Monica Farmers Market. The Dining Room also has a seafood bar that will delight fans.

Our “check in card”- a hand written number on a mini sticky note… I mean come in you could at least have given us a full sized sticky! Jk- super ghetto.
Valet- no communication between front desk and valet. Great guy working the valet, but just awful management and no systems or processes here. This felt like a high school operation.
Room- after getting back from a movie (at around 11) , my wife and I got back to the room and the bar was so loud (like we were at a rave in Miami) that it was coming through the walls in our room. They know this is an issue and they left construction ear plugs in the rooms. You can’t make that up.
Rate- if it were $50 bucks a night and was “motel sander” this would be a good deal. But it’s not. About 600% overpriced.
