THE EGYPTIAN THEATRE
A remarkable movie palace in Los Angeles, one of the monuments of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Inspired by the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb, this palace, built in 1922, is one of the landmarks of Hollywood's Golden Age: the very year it opened, it hosted the very first world premiere of the cult Robin Hood, starring Douglas Fairbanks. In 1998, it was taken over by the American Cinematheque, which organized numerous screenings, retrospectives and previews - among others. Bought by Netflix in 2020, the Egyptian Theatre underwent major renovations; not to worry, screenings resumed in November 2023.
