VENICE CANALS
Venice Canals is a neighborhood in Los Angeles that was modeled after the real Venice of Italy
This Los Angeles district was designed on the basis of the "real" Venice of Italy; gondolas were even imported when it was built in the 1900s. Although local authorities filled in some of the canals with concrete in the 1920s to avoid having to maintain them, a portion of Abbot Kinney's original work remains, southeast of the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Pacific Avenue. Today, it's a pleasant place to walk or cycle between the superb houses lining the waterfront.
