AMÉRICA TROPICAL INTERPRETIVE CENTER
Center paying tribute to the Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros and his mural América Tropical, restored in the 1970s.
This center is dedicated to the memory of Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros and the preservation of his mural América Tropical. Commissioned in 1932 to contribute to the romantic atmosphere of Olvera Street, this defender of the unity of the Mexican people included a crucified indigenous man on a pole with an eagle, symbol of Western domination. Triggering a controversy, the fresco was covered in white, before being restored in the 1970s.
