LA LUZ DE JESUS GALLERY
A gallery focused on the "Lowbrow" movement, related to pop surrealism
It's an extension of the Soap Plant / Wacko gadget store, established in 1971 by Billy Shire. Fifteen years later, he opened this gallery, which he initially focused on the Lowbrow movement, akin to pop surrealism. Considered a form of counter-culture, this movement draws its sources from folk, street art and comics. The founder's aim has remained unchanged since the establishment's inception: to introduce the general public to an underground art form. Revealed talents include Manuel Ocampo and Joe Coleman.
