Old world charm resort located northeast of Downtown with gardens and large function rooms in Pasadena

The Langham Huntington belongs to the prestigious hotel chain of the same name. Built in 1907 in an architectural style reminiscent of traditional Hispanic missions, this resort with its old-world charm is by far the most prestigious address east of Los Angeles. Located northeast of Downtown Pasadena and adjacent to the famous Huntington Library, the property sprawls across more than 20 acres, complete with gardens and large function rooms. Among the many amenities offered are golf, tennis, spa and a renowned restaurant.

First, the Brilliant website to make a reservation is NOT brilliant. I found a room I wanted to reserve. The site asked me to sign in. I signed in and got back to "select room" in the site. Again. I am asked to sign in. This same circle went on and on. Finally I gave up and called the hotel reservation desk. The agent throughout the call tried to upsell everything to me from activities in the area to spa treatments. I told him I am only there for one night on family business. My husband loved this hotel and wanted to stay there. I booked a 360$ room for one night with a garden view. I inquired about a city view but was told none available 4/1 check in. Then we get to the hotel. I am already aware that valet parking is 47$ per day which is steep. At the hotel desk the clerk asked if we'd like a 10$ upgrade. I was on the phone with a doctor so my husband finished checking us in. I really don't know what we paid extra for. We had the original room I reserved with a horrible garden view. We looked at the rooftop of the walkway between buildings. What was the extra charge for? I still don't know other than to make more money off of us. We had a pleasant dinner at the Terrace restaurant which was empty when we got there. We got a nice window table inside. When another guest is seated outside they are seated right in front of our window. The whole patio was EMPTY. Why would you seat a guest in front of another guest's window which detracted from their view? At least the meal was delicious and the service was excellent. Later we went to the bar for drinks. Maybe they cater to a younger crowd usually but I looked around. There were only very mature persons seated within. Yet, the music was not relaxing. It was loud and obnoxious like nails on a chalkboard. After a couple extremely expensive drinks we had to leave the bar due to the horrible music. Now the room: sort of small for 370$ for 1 night with a disappointing view (remember the 10$ upgrade for nothing?), the hot water was HOT-actually scalding if one's not careful, the faucet handle was leaking onto the counter, the shower curtain liner was torn off the ring on one end, AND absolutely NO bath gel was in the beautiful porcelain bottle-which was not discovered until we actually showered prior to checking out. Luckily we still had bar of hand soap to use. The makeup mirror had a bulb burned out when we checked in. When I pulled the hair dryer to use, there was old dried, makeup foundation smudged on the handle that was not from me. This means the hair dryer was not wiped down after previous use. Gross! We let the desk know at check out and they just asked if we called anyone about above issues. Well it is inconvenient to call when you're already wet in the shower after all. For a 5 star hotel, you would think everything would be perfect and it was not. We've stayed here numerous times in the past and this hotel was one of our favorites. Now we feel like all they want is our hard earned money without the superb service and accommodations that we were used to. For a one night stay, it was nearly 1000$. We will not return to this hotel.

The staff here are incredibly friendly! However, the restroom is a bit outdated, and the water flow from the tap near the bathtub is quite weak. On the bright side, the bath amenities are very comfortable.

I love love love love this AMAZING hotel! I am always excited when I get the chance to stay here. It is in a beautiful part of Pasadena. They always have such gorgeous flowers in the lobby. The rooms are beautiful and comfy. I love the smell of their lotions and shower gel! Smells like luxury!! Great bar and very friendly staff. Pool is nice. You just cannot go wrong at this place. It's perfect!
