We stayed at Hermit Gulch Campground for two nights, March 23-24 2024. Great weather. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful. The campsite is easy 20 min walk from Avalon. We did a day hike on Trans Catalina trail. Botanic garden was fun as well. Great experience.

Happy it was pretty empty since the sites were tiny and on top of each other. Since it was empty it was a nice pretty quiet campground. The camp host lady was super nice and helpful. We bought the small camp fuel and it was defective.... Got almost nothing out of it. Glad we had a back up in our group since we were doing the whole trans-catalina.... Could have been a bad situation!

We camped at the Hermit Gulch campground for a night. The host at the camp site Regina was very helpful with information about nearby places to visit and hiking trails. She even offered us $4 for the Garibaldi bus when she saw that we were out of change!

my partner and I had the most wonderful time here. Larry was the ranger on duty and he was incredibly kind and helpful and made us feel really welcome. It's a lovely tiny campground and it even has a little store. Bathrooms were well maintained. Could not recommend more.

Nice , lots of rules

Beautiful campground and area, but for the price of a budget hotel ($60/night) the coin operated showers rubbed me the wrong way.

A well developed campground just a few miles out of Avalon. The campground has direct access to the start of the Trans Catalina trail and is an excellent spot to rest up before making an early-morning trek through the island.

There are bathroom facilities along with sinks and water faucets.

A short distance up the road is the Wringley Botanical Garden, also worth a visit.

We had an amazing time at Hermit Gulch campground. The facilities are fantastic- flushing clean toilets, washing sink and tables, grills, picnic tables. Our tent cabins were very clean and roomy with front porch, propane stove and lantern. Outlets to charge phone or e-bike. Regina was so helpful with a little camp store right there for last minute things. She even gave our kids a printed scavenger hunt and honorary ranger pins. This was camping made super easy which is great since you can only take so much on the boat over. And site is so pretty and short walk into town. Just great.

Campground was beautiful and the ranger, Regina, was a sweetheart and very helpful. Lots of wildlife and singing birds. The road us noisy but you get over it pretty quickly.

The campground was very clean, calm, quiet and an overall pleasure to camp at. Regina (the ranger) was extremely kind and helpful. She went out of her way to make us feel welcomed and we will be coming back soon!

Awesome campground with a lovely host and a warm coin operated shower. However, some kids did sneak into the canvas tent next to us and partied all night with loud music. We were told that we were the only campers. Otherwise, would definitely stay here again.

Hiking trail can view both sides of the ocean on Avalon. Beautiful view, trail is well maintained, trail is about 7 miles long in loop

A mile out of town. Fun peace of you want to camp. In fact you can show up and rent tent and sleeping bags, etc. We used it for base camp for hikes in the hills. Looks of fun and a cute little store

Great place about 1.5 miles from Avalon/beach, and very close to botanical gardens and several trailheads. We spent Labor Day Weekend here. Our original site wasn't in the shade, and it was hot, so Regina relocated us to a shadier spot - we appreciated it! We spent most of our time at the beach. Nice town & campground!

Worst run campground I've ever experienced. Sites are jam packed together. Quiet times are not respected whatsoever. People were loudly partying all night long, both nights. Don't expect to get any rest. One bathroom's sink didn't have running water, the next bathroom had vomit all over the floor, and the next one was locked from the inside. When I told Ranger Regina how insufferably loud it was, all night long, she denied it and said it was quiet. So ridiculous. Both nights were equally loud and annoying the whole time. Terrible! Just hotel it out here. We will never return to this joke of a campsite.

Great facilities. Everything you need. You don't even need to bring your own cooking. Coin operated showers, communal fire, safari tents. I'd highly recommend if you want that camping vibe or if you weren't able to book a room in town. An easy bike, hike or taxi away at only 1.2 miles from Avalon.

Close proximity to hikes and the civilization makes HGC location perfect. All amenities included, even free Wi-Fi and shower, for fans of glamping. Also, plenty of wild life roaming camp through the day. When reserving, make sure that your site has a shade, it becomes really hot, especially in summer. Fires with wood not allowed, however, compressed logs are ok, also can do propane cooking as well as grill.

Hermit Gulch is the most beautiful campgrounds in Avalon. It’s full of wildlife. We saw deer and the island foxes wandering in the campground. The best part of this campsite is how CLEAN the bathroom and showers are. Well stocked with toilet paper, seat covers, and soap. They were cleaner then the restaurant bathrooms in town. I love this place and will always come back. Also the camp store staff are so nice and friendly!
