A little off the bustling State Street, this gastro-pub offers every evening a beautiful menu of seasonal and organic dishes, blends of European and Asian inspiration. A tasty and original result in a contemporary and friendly setting. The Black Sheep is a perfect place to enjoy a refined dinner without déplumer.

We decided to split an appetizer and a main. To start, we had the beet and chevre "cheesecake." This was goat cheese whipped up with some beets or beet juice and served with more beets and topped with a crumble. The dish was inspired. The tangy goat cheese needed something to balance it and the beets performed admirably. Plus, it was larger than a couple of bites, so it was a perfect dish to share before the entrée.
We had the coq au vin for our main. So good! We've had this dish many times in restaurants over the years and have made it ourselves too, but this was the best version we've ever had. The sauce was not too thick, very very rich, and slightly sweet, maybe including some Marsala wine? The chicken literally fell off the bones, to the point we could eat 100% of the meat and not leave anything on the plate. Carrots, turnips, and creamy potatoes completed the dish. Outstanding.
This is not fussy food administered in multiple micro-courses. It's hearty, simple, yet delicately flavored. We enjoyed ourselves a lot at the Black Sheep and we'll be back again next time we're in town.
Highly recommended.
