A little off the bustling State Street, this gastro-pub offers every evening a beautiful menu of seasonal and organic dishes, blends of European and Asian inspiration. A tasty and original result in a contemporary and friendly setting. The Black Sheep is a perfect place to enjoy a refined dinner without déplumer.

Our second visit and we decided to do the tasting menu, which includes 8 or 9 dishes to share over 4 courses. Service was attentive and helpful even though the restaurant was full. The food was delicious and reasonable. Highlights included the marrow toast, Brussels peanut slaw, albacore crudo, and braised shortribs.

Fine food, poor service.
We had a reservation, yet experienced lengthy wait times to be seated, to order, and for our food to come.
Staff said that rain impacted their seating and kitchen orders, which I totally understand. However, rain has been forecasted for many days, given one of the biggest storms is on the horizon.
Staff seemed ill prepared to deal with what was very expected weather.

Someone recently asked me what my favorite restaurant is in SB, and I said probably Black Sheep. Just went here last night and yep, still my favorite. You can tell they put thought and effort in to each dish. I always get the duck confit dish as it's something really time consuming to make at home. And theirs is always appropriately crispy. This time they had a cassoulet. My wife got the coq au vin. Both delicious and paired well with the Grenache we ordered. The squash apple bisque with a kick was downed instantly. And to top it off probably my favorite dessert to date in town, a crispy hot chocolate upsidedown cake with fruit syrup, ice cream and crunchy cacao or chocolate chips. Hot cold soft crunchy, 10/10. A lot of places in SB just don't put effort in to dessert so it's refreshing to find a restaurant that does. Black Sheep reminds me of nice meals I've had in Europe

Everything was perfect. We had a great time. Delicious food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Would for sure dine here again. Also did not feel it was too overpriced. We did take advantage of their happy hour special. Highly recommend.
We especially loved the crudo, and the salad was so yummy!!!

Note: prices have gone up. Tasting menu was $65 just a few months ago. Now $72 (still worth it).
Also they charge a credit card fee that was a surprise at the end of the meal. I would have felt better about it, if they had mentioned the fee somewhere on the menu (at the start of our delicious meal).
