Haven't been here for years but it didn't match my recall. Food was bland & service slow. Definitely not worth the wait.

Food was good, it was A very long wait for our meals, about 45 mins. We had the mushroom tacos, alambre de pollo, tamal de canela y clavo, gordita de frijol, and Chile con queso.

Really unique experience to eat some non typical Mexican food. Gives you a good break from plain California Mexican.

I don't understand the hype. The line was out the door and the wait from ordering to eating was 45 min. I was expecting good food. The meat and rice were bland. The handmade tortillas are Maseca tortillas not scratch. And I think we got ripped off. The math didn't add up. We didn't get a receipt.

???????? food was fire!! Warning cash only!!
Taco de rajas was cheesy goodness authentic flavor- love the fresh handmade tortillas. Beef taco had generous meat, Tacos come with 2 tortillas, enough meat and rajas to make 2 tacos ????????
I also had the tamale with vegetables, good veggie and sauce topping.
The kids had Quesadillas - they loved them!
Hubby got chorizo and adobada /pork.
The salsa bar is pretty simple, 2 salsa flavors and some pico de gallo.
We'll def be back to try all the other options
We arrived around 8:30pm on Monday, there wasn't much line, but it quickly filled in. We got lucky and got a parking spot inside, otherwise you may have to park on the main street or in towards the residents.

Our favorite spot in Santa Barbara. Good food and feels really authentic. And Julia Childs thought so too!

The food is delicious. The service friendly and fast. You order at the window, then wait in the casual, almost outside, fun area for your number to be called. Very relaxing.

Great place to eat. Hollywood cerlebartys and famus people eat here. You might get lucky and find some one famus. Good lock. Great mom and pops mexican food every time. The owner is pretty cool. Thanks

Expect long wait. Cash only. But totally worth it. Pork tamale was our favorite. Specials are really good.

Authentic, delicious Mexican food.

Cash only. ???? But $20 went a looong way! Tortillas appear to be flour only, which I don't like normally, but these were handmade on the spot, slightly fluffy and didn't stick to my teeth, haha. Taco fillings were great, but the tortillas made the whole taco experience amazing. #16 Super-Rica Especial ????

Negatives: Cash only! Parking sucks. Limited seating. Salsa selection is limited to red, green, and pico de gallo. Tacos come with just meat, no onions and cilantro.

We came during a weekend trip in January. Visited on Saturday and they were closed for vacation, but Maps didn't indicate the closure. Luckily they were open the next day so we hit them on the way home.

I would suggest visiting early on a trip since Maps info seems unreliable.

Met a lovely couple who shared their table with us. They regularly drive an hour from Ojai to eat here.

There aren't that many vegetarian options, but the ones they do have are so good. The rajas con queso taco in particular was amazing. Be advised that it's cash only.

I have been a patron of this place since 1978 and I can tell you there’s nothing on the planet as incredible, as fabulous as the gourmet Mexican food cuisine offered at this family run Santa Barbara institution. The mastermind behind it all is Izzy, Isadoro and if you ever get the opportunity to eat here you will be hooked!

Used to be my favorite, but got food poisoning from dinner there last night.

Tacos are great, my two complaints is they don’t post prices for their tamales and they are so overpriced. One medium tamale with sauce is $10, and the Gordita was $5 for a small size without any sides. Gordita was bland, beans seemed canned and too spicy to enjoy. Perhaps a 9/10 level of spicy. We wish we just ordered tacos because they were excellent, salsas were super whatever but tacos didn’t need it. Felt scammed paying $30+ for 4 tacos, 1 tamale and a Gordita.

Excellent tacos. Tarif très abordable. Je n'hésiterai pas à recommander cette adresse à Santa Barbara.
