Small caves with old Indian drawings in Santa Barbara offering tours for the public
After long being ignored, caves painted by the Chumash Indians are now open to the public. Of the dozen or so small caves, whose 400-year-old drawings are reminiscent of those in Colorado's famous Mesa Verde region, you'll see only one, protected by fences. From Santa Barbara, take Highway 154 north along San Marcos Pass Road. Turn right onto Painted Cave Road. Continue for 3 km.
