We have stayed at Apple Farm several times over the past several years but after this last visit we will never go there again. They have been running big discounts mid-week and we decided to head up there. In the past the beds have been really comfortable but not this time. If you like a really hard mattress this is the place for you, if you don’t, check in elsewhere. They have either changed out all the mattresses in the main building (where the best rooms are) or they have removed the pillow tops that made them more comfortable when we were there in the past. We stayed in two different rooms and the mattress was the same hard surface in both. The last night we upgraded to what they call the Signature room, one of two rooms in the main building at the end of the building. Ours overlooked the pool and the water wheel but the noise from the pool wasn’t that bad because there weren’t many people there. We had high hopes when we saw the room. It was shaped like an octagon with eight walls and a tall peaked ceiling that ended in a cupola. There was a four poster bed (still with the rock hard mattress) and a cozy fireplace. We thought the bathroom was amazing with two sinks and a huge shower with three shower heads. Unfortunately one of the sinks didn’t drain properly and of the three shower heads, only one worked. The other two only gave out lukewarm water. Because we were there in the spring with a water source right there dozens of frogs sang late into the night and we could hear them. That noise really didn’t bother me but if you want a quiet space to go to sleep don’t stay in the rooms near the water wheel in the spring. When we checked out the unfriendly young woman was on the phone and we had to wait. Then when I told her about the bathroom problems there was no apology of any kind. She looked pained that I had mentioned them to her. When we stayed there before there was a cute small two story gift shop on the front of the property and I bought several things there over the years. A few years ago it closed and then it became a wine shop but now as you turn into the property those large windows are covered with what looks like paper, not a great welcoming sight for your first view of the place. The prices on the weekend appear to be three times higher than they are mid-week so you should try to stay there mid-week if you are going. We didn’t eat in the restaurant. My husband walked up there mid-afternoon and he said there was no one in there so at least there probably wouldn’t be a wait for eating. We used to enjoy staying there but even with the discounted prices we will look elsewhere. Lots of other motels and hotels in San Luis and nearby in Morro Bay or Pismo.
Staff is very helpful. Service is amazing. I need to make sure I mention there are comp coffee and apple cider. Love it! Comp wine from 5-8 when I was there.
Rooms are good. Stayed there twice. One time I got the end room with a fireplace and a lovely view. The bed is super comfy. This is a hotel with a lot of characters. Great for a honeymoon.
Second time stayed there booked via Expedia. Got a smaller room at the front. Not bad either but way smaller. Still got character and fire place. Like!
Value - I would say is good value. Way better than a few neighboring hotels for sure.
Oh. Make sure you try their breakfast. Open to public! Check out the pictures
7a-11a Wed-Friday
7a-12p Sat and Sun
[and starting April 2024 they are hoping to also be open (seasonally) Monday and Tuesday 7-11]
The post pandemic menu is brunch only.
Also, for old-timers, the mill house has been converted from a cute little walk-thru to hotel rooms now.
Still a great hotel and destination!
