Hotel possesses a lot of character. Rooms are amazingly clean and bed is comfortable.

Because it is a small establishment, there is no after hours office or service. That part is quite understandable. There is no exercise room even though there is probably space for it. Befroom was relatively cold at a Max of 67°. In all fairness, management later explained that what looked to be an air purifier on the floor could be engaged to produce heat. No television even though it could be hidden within a curio in case they are trying to preserve an Historic feel.

This writer is sympathetic to the hotel's desire to preserve history, the in-room shower and space heater notwithstanding.. Still, if they want a five-star review, especially at the prices they charge, they need to furnish five-star amenities.

3.5 star lodging at 4.0 star prices.

The BergerMan and The Silver Fox truly LOVE hanging out with things older than we are. And that seems to be getting more difficult all the time!

Technically the oldest still-standing building in the city of San Diego, the "Cosmo" certainly fits the bill. Our stay in Room 7 was epic. No TV. No Telephone. (WiFi if you need that kind of thing) I truly HUGE two person hammered copper tub!

We will certainly be returning!

I stayed here with my husband on January 1st and had the best time! Dee checked us in and had great stories to tell and was just a very knowledgeable person. He clearly is very excited to share the history and experience of the hotel, and was just a very positive and happy person to be around.

If you believe in ghosts, you’ll definitely experience some things here. We stayed in Room 11 so we got a lot. I had my laptop plugged into the wall and recording all night long. Before we went to bed we walked around Old Town and got some food, left the computer recording for 3 hours with no issues. When I recorded overnight however, the video corrupted and is just not playable. The video was around 7 hours long. I have used that same laptop to record 10+ hours of continuous video with absolutely no issues before. And even though it was plugged in all night, it was at 60% battery in the morning, which again, has never happened before, even with continuous recording. We’re local to SD so I started a new video when I took my husband to work the next morning and ran a few errands. I returned 2 hours later and again, corrupted video. The only video that wasn’t corrupted was the first one I took. I have some of those cat toy balls that light up when they’re bumped, so when we left for dinner we scattered them throughout the room, within view of the camera. At different points, 3 of the 4 balls lit up, even though there was no noises or anything at the time they lit up. 1 of them was on the bed and another was on the chair in the corner, while the last one that lit up was in the bathroom doorway. There was also some lights flickering in our room and in the hallway at various points, and the light fixture in the room appeared to have been gently pushed multiple times, as we noticed it was swinging when we were just sitting down and talking.

I was most bummed about the overnight video being corrupted, because I was hearing the floor INSIDE the room creaking all night, as well as tapping on the wall, the chair next to the bed creaking, and noises in the bathroom. The wall I heard noises from, was the wall behind the bed which is connected to the bathroom within the room. There’s just 0 explanation for that. I believe the hotel was empty except for 1 other room on the other side of the hotel, so there’s no way it was them I was hearing.

When I returned to grab my laptop and drop off the keys at checkout, I heard footsteps down the hallway and stop outside the door. Room 11 is at the end of the hall, so I would have heard if they walked away, and there’s no way they were walking past the room. I thought it was housekeeping, but when I didn’t hear a knock I opened the door and there was no one there. Due to the age of the building and how the floor creaked in that hallway, I would have heard those footsteps going back down the hall, if it was a person.

I have 0 logical explanation for the things we experienced, other than the hotel being haunted and still very active. Definitely recommend staying here if you’re interested in that sort of thing, or just enjoy the history and location!

What a great historical hotel located in Old Town. Only 10 rooms very laid back and about a block away from train/transit station. Dee, the manager was great.
Don't expect new furniture, this place is historical,, kind of like staying in museum.
Just the experience we were looking for.

All you can expect and hope for. It all started with Dee. Great guy. He was very informative, including giving some great history about the hotel. Hats off to him. We live in San Diego and wanted a staycation for the new year. Old town sounded like a good place to celebrate new years eve (got to see fireworks).
Anyways....great new years eve dinner at Casa De Reyes. We walked around old town. We then enjoyed the room, INCLUDING the coolest copper tub you have to enjoy.
As for ghosts...we were in room #7. No ghost sightings, but I will say you can feel a vibe that if you were open to seeing things, I believe there is energy abound that would respond. I was more about getting a new experience and enjoying a very unique and old San Diego landmark. I recommend. Happy new year 2024.

Dee was so awesome and friendly. He even educated me about the property before I got my keys. If you like historical areas with a great location you will love this place. I stayed in the big sweet and it did not disappoint. It felt like I traveled back into time. And the complimentary breakfast in the morning hit the spot.

A feel of the old west in the heart of Old Town Park, surrounded by history, culture and great restaurants. Historic wooden structure over adobe, but rooms were clean, had good indoor air quality and comfortable beds and climate control. Friendly staff. Restaurant/bar closed but good continental breakfast. Train and light rail station to downtown a block away. Reception desk in courtyard through wooden gate that you access off Mason St. Call inn keeper to be let in.

Step back in time and enjoy a nights stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel! In the heart of Old Town. My sister and I have stayed there twice and we enjoyed it a lot! Rooms are very nice and the breakfast is the normal continental. Love sitting on the wrap around balcony having drinks and eating. And watching the people walk by. Lots to do in Old Town from shopping to restaurants.

It's historic aka old. Stuff doesn't always work. The staff makes up for the shortcomings. Nice experience. Wait till resturaunt opens.

Forget the star rating. I just wanted to say that, if this place is open, they certainly disguised it... i.e., all doors locked and lights turned off.

Attended my nieces wedding here. Great venue to have both the wedding and reception. Very historic and is decorated in vintage appropriate furniture. Definitely recommend.

What an odd hotel. It certainly has a great location and the rooms fit in with the old west style of the area.

The good points stop there.

On check in at 6pm I had to call to get access but it went to voicemail. Luckily another couple let me in to the lobby/courtyard. I wandered around looking for staff but no one was there. Eventually someone came in from outside the hotel and checked me in.

The hotel restaurants and bars are all closed. Apparently they have been since Covid. As a result the place felt eerily empty and unwelcoming

The website still mentions they have these facilities and needs updating.

Sad to see such a great building going to waste.
