Heritage County Park is a historic site with a collection of restored Victorian homes
Adjacent to Old Town, Heritage County Park is a historic site featuring a collection of restored Victorian homes. These include :
Sherman-Gilbert House (1887). Its first owner was John Sherman, cousin of William Tecumseh Sherman, a famous American general. It was later inhabited by the Gilbert sisters, known for funding artists and hosting cultural events in their home.
Bushyhead House (1887). This Italianate-style house was built by Edward Wilkerson Bushyhead, sheriff, chief of police of San Diego and owner of a local newspaper.
McConaughy House (1887). A year after its construction, this house was bought by Fanny Keating to create a hospital, one of the first in San Diego.
Christian House (1889). Entrepreneur Harfield Timberlake Christian built this Anglo-Saxon-influenced house - Queen Anne - distinguished by its tower.
Temple Beth Israel (1889). This was San Diego's first synagogue, built by Congregation Beth Israel. At the time, many churches were also built in this style.
Burton House (1893). Built by a retired military doctor, its refined style reflects the transition to neo-classical architecture.
Senlis Cottage (1896). This is the modest home of Eugene Senlis, an employee of Kate Sessions, a pioneering horticulturalist: in short, a fine example of late 19th-century working-class housing.
