SPRECKELS ORGAN PAVILION
This outdoor organ, built in 1914 in the record time of 7 months, is the largest in the world with more than 5,000 pipes.
Built in 1914 in a record 7 months, this immense outdoor organ - the largest in the world - was built for the Panama-California Exposition (1915-1917). When John D. and Adolph Spreckels donated it to the City of San Diego, they had only one requirement: that the sound of this sublime instrument with more than 5,000 pipes - ranging from the size of a pencil to 9.75 meters - should resound every Sunday at 2pm. Even today, their wish is granted: a crowd gathers every week. A spectacle not to be missed.
