Cinco de Mayo is one of the great days of commemoration in Mexico, and even more so in the United States. Behind this date lies a defining moment in Mexican history, celebrating the victory of its army over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. On that day, 4,500 Mexican soldiers, commanded by General Ignacio Zaragoza, faced 7,000 better-equipped and experienced French soldiers. However, the French were defeated and had to withdraw. Many events are organized in Las Vegas.
