PLANET HOLLYWOOD
Former grand hotel in Las Vegas offering a nice shopping tour of the city with its Moroccan medina air and Rainstorm Show
The Planet Hollywood sits in place of the Aladdin. The flickering lamp of the former Arabian Nights palace is now installed in Downtown, on Fremont Street, in memory of what was once one of the greatest hotels in Las Vegas. In his heyday, in the 1960s, Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu there. It was a time when the international jet set found in the exoticism of the establishment something to satisfy their need for a change of scenery. Thirty years passed under the benevolent eye of a happy genius until, in the 1990s, the gleaming palace began to look like a low-rent souk, next to the luxurious towers that had sprung up on the Strip. So the management decided to demolish the hotel completely, to build an Ali Baba cave full of new treasures. Unfortunately, the Arabian Nights theme was no longer appealing. Just three years after its opening, the Aladdin was sold to Planet Hollywood. Of the former hotel, only the shopping mall survived. The Miracle Mile Shop is one of the city's most beautiful shopping promenades with its Moroccan medina feel. There are two free shows: Fountain Show, every hour, from 11am to 7pm; and Rainstorm Show, every hour (or half hour) Friday to Sunday, from 11am to 9pm (7pm on Sunday). The casino's style is much more hip and contemporary. The restaurant list includes a burger at Gordon Ramsay.
