A large salt lake with temperatures above 40°C home to five species of pupfish that measure 2 or 3 cm in length.
Surprise, we discover that there are fish in Death Valley! When the great lake retreated, some cyprinids adapted to the new living conditions: freezing cold winter nights, stifling heat in summer, almost no water... Five species of pupfish live there, surviving waters six times saltier than the ocean, but also temperatures higher than 40°C. Passing birds feast on these fish, which measure only 2 or 3 cm.
