UBEHEBE CRATER
Formed by explosions, the Ubehebe crater has slightly raised rims and is heightened by more than 20 m of ash
Here is the crater of Ubehebe (pronounced "ou-bii-ii-bii") and other small craters. As the magma rose, it encountered a water table: the pressure rose to shear off several tens of meters of rock, and the explosions threw millions of cubic meters of earth mixed with lava into the air. A burning cloud swept over the area, plating a layer of fine debris on the face of the rocks facing the crater. The rim around the conical hole is slightly raised and heightened by more than 20 m of ash.
