MESQUITE FLAT SAND DUNES
Mesquite flat sand dunes at Death Valley National Park offering a quick glimpse from the nearby parking lot
Although sand can be found in much of Death Valley National Park, there are very few places where it has accumulated to create dunes, yet this site does. The reason: wind, erosion from the northern mountains, and the natural barrier formed by the southern mountains keep the sand from moving further. The Mesquit Flat Sand Dunes can be visited from the nearby parking lot or hiked for 3.2 km. Caution: It is strongly discouraged to use the trail after 10 a.m. in summer.
