The main American independent film festival, it has revealed many directors, such as Quentin Tarantino and Jim Jarmusch.
It is the main American festival of independent cinema. Founded in 1978 under the name of "Utah/US Film Festival" by enthusiasts, it took on a national - and then international - scope in 1981 when Robert Redford, then living in Utah, created the Sundance Institute and took over the presidency of the event. It has revealed a great number of directors, from Jim Jarmusch - Only Lovers Left Alive, Paterson - to Quentin Tarantino, who presented the now famous Reservoir Dogs in 1992, as well as the Coen brothers, who were awarded for Blood Simple in 1985.
