METEOR CRATER
Meteor Crater would have been formed about 50 000 years ago, following the impact of a meteorite of about 50 meters in diameter
The crater is also called Barringer Crater, in memory of the geologist Daniel Moreau Barringer (1860-1929), who bought the site in 1903. This crater would have been formed about 50 000 years ago, following the impact of a meteorite of about 50 meters in diameter and a mass of 300 000 tons. It measures 1,200 meters in diameter and is 190 meters deep. The visit of the site can be free or guided. The trail of approximately 1 km round trip remains on the tops of the places. The Visitor Center broadcasts a 10-minute film that explores the origins of Meteor Crater
