This mountain became famous because of Nichiren's retreat in 1274. It was here that he built the Kuon-ji in 1281. The site is quite impressive, especially in relation to the stairs by which one reaches the different constructions of the Kuon-ji: the Shoshi-Dō, the Shinkotsu-Dō (relic hall) and the Ikaidō. One can see the Hōjōkan where Nichiren's ashes lie. Towards the west, the Nishiga dani houses the pagoda acting as a hermitage.

From Kuon-ji, visitors reach the top of Minobu-san by cable car.
