This shrine in the Chichibu Valley is said to be over 2000 years old. It was for a long time the place of retreat of the Tendai Buddhist sect for yamabushi pilgrims. It is possible from Mount Mitsumine to head south and reach, after an 8-9 hour walk, Kamozawa via Mount Kirimogamine, Ōdawa, Mount Kumotori, Mount Nanatsuishi and Dodokoro. From Kamozawa, it is possible to reach the lake and the nearby Okutama Valley. An unforgettable hiking route to be done over several days.
