This museum was established in 1977 by potter Shoji Hamada, who used part of his own home to share his collection of works, which he had collected as personal references for his pottery, in the hope that the general public would also find pleasure in them. Visitors can experience Shoji Hamada's view of the world from a rural lifestyle. The museum is also located near the thatched house of the potter's family.
