SASHIKIJI
Sashikiji remains, even today, famous for its old houses with original architecture and customs that differ from those of Honshū. The patois and dialects are specific to the seven islands of the archipelago. The traditional garment is black with white patterns and is distinctly different from the kimono. The apron (belt) takes the place of the obi and the hairstyle corresponds to the civil status of the woman. Onsen are very popular in this part of Ōshima. To tour the island, there is nothing better than a rental car, as public transportation is limited.
