The Sanzen-in temple is the main attraction not to be missed. This Buddhist temple of the Tendai sect, founded in 784 by Saichō, is nestled in the heart of lush vegetation. The omnipresent moss, with a very photogenic colour, accentuates the feeling of well-being. The temple has several buildings, gardens and footpaths to explore as you wish. There is a very popular statue of Buddha Amida dating from the 900s. The proximity of the cypress trees also makes it one of the most popular places in the area of Kyōto.
