JAKKO-IN
The Jakkō-in is said to have been founded in 594 by Shōtoku Taishi to serve originally as a funerary temple to his father, the emperor Yōmei. The long staircase, which leads to the temple door, is especially popular during the autumn season, when the trees are at their most beautiful. The main hall, which unfortunately burned down in 2000, has since been rebuilt and houses a statue of the Buddhist deity Jizo. This place offers a restful and relaxing setting that changes according to the seasons, to the delight of visitors.
