Hiraso has been introducing Nara's cuisine for more than 150 years. On the menu of this very good restaurant, sushi in the local way: kakinoha-zushi, wrapped in a persimmon leaf, or ayu-zushi, based on a sweet river fish. Another local specialty served here is cha-gayu, a rice porridge with roasted and salted tea. Whatever menu you choose, be prepared to be surprised. Some dishes can be taken away, making it a good stop before a picnic in the park at noon. There are two other kiosks in town where you can buy a bento.
