Situated in the city centre, this monastery was created in 759 by the Chinese monk Ganjin, founder of the Ritsu-Shū sect he introduced in Japan in 754. The main pavilion (Kon-dō) houses a beautiful Trinity of Buddhas, while some sculptures are conserved in Shin Hōzō. The temple is classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
