Kashihara-jingu is at the foot of Mount Unebi. It was on this site more than 2,500 years ago that Japan's first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, ascended to the throne. Built during the Meiji period in 1889, this shrine commemorates this mythology. Its vast domain invites to stroll and contemplation. Great festivals are held there and it is not uncommon to see in November, during the Shichi-go-san, a traditional rite of passage, many children in kimono.
