This park is worth a visit, especially during the cherry blossom season. Each group of cherry trees (Shimo Senbon, Naka Senbon, Kami Senbon and Oku Senbon, from the lowest to the highest), has about a thousand trees in sight. They were planted at the end of the 7th century by the sorcerer priest Ozunu Enno, or rather En no Gyōja, considered as a hermit adept of esoteric cults mixed with shamanic practices.
Shimo Sembon, the "lower" thousand trees, is crossed by a funicular railway that leads to a road from where one can reach the Yashino in, the sanctuary of Go-Daigo.
