The Omine Okugake Path is the supreme place of ascetic practice which is shugendō. This World Heritage-listed trail, which leads from the Yoshino and Omine Mountains to Kumano Sanzan in Wakayama, is designed for hiking aficionados. Please note that some experience is required. This trail, in the footsteps of the shugendō training, stretches 170 kilometers through high mountains called the Yamato Alps, and is usually completed in five days. Follow the wooden signs stamped Kumano Kodo.
