This building was built by a Chinese financier from Kōbe at the end of the 19th century, in a very European style, as a secondary villa. The Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat-sen resided here during his visit to Japan in the spring of 1913. The building was opened to the public in 1984. Various objects that belonged to Sun Yat-sen and documents showing his relationship with Japan can be seen here, as well as Kōbe. In 2001, the villa was designated as a cultural property of national importance.
