It is recognizable from afar thanks to its slate roof, which earned it the name Uroko no ie, "the house with scales". It is the most important house in the Kitano district. It is listed as part of Japan's national cultural heritage. Inside, you can admire many antique objects, stained glass windows, paintings and silverware. The most notable pieces are part of the collections of English porcelain of the Royal Worcester, Saxon and Royal Copenhagen porcelain. From the verandah you can see the city's harbour.
