Awaji puppets are part of Japan's intangible folk heritage with more than 500 years of history. At that time, there were about 38 troops on Awaji Island performing on the island and in the rest of the country. The Awaji Puppet Theatre Company is a direct heir to Yoshida Denjirô-za, one of the largest Awaji troupes of the Edo period. It was created in 1964 with the support of the local population in order to preserve this ancestral tradition. The interior of the theatre is also worth seeing. A beautiful traditional experience.
