The wooden clock (tokei-dai) dates from 1878. The tower, which houses a museum, was renovated in 1995. The rooms on the first floor were used as laboratories, lecture rooms and exhibition space for zoological, botanical and mineralogical specimens. It was designated as a cultural property of national importance in 1970. It continues to serve as a historical landmark, telling the stories of the early days of Sapporo.

Passable
